Parish council meetings: 

Parish Council meetings are held on the second Thursday of January, March, May, July, September and November in the village hall at 7.30pm. The agenda will be posted here a few days before each meeting   

Church services

All Saints, Hawstead

 

Services take place as follows:

  • Second Sunday of each month (morning prayer at 11am)
  • Fourth Sunday of each month (Eucharist at 11am)

 

St Peter, Nowton

 

Services take place as follows:

  • First and third Sunday of each month at 11am

Our Village

Hawstead is a small village in Suffolk, England and as an administrative parish, covers an area of 2,335 acres (945 hectares). It is located 3 miles (5 km.) south of Bury St. Edmunds between the B1066 and A134 roads, in a fork formed by the River Lark and a small tributary. The neighbouring villages are (working clockwise from North: Nowton, Great Whelnetham, Stanningfield, Lawshall, Whepstead and Horringer.

Lt. Col. Gerald Carpenter' s Diary - transcribed with illustrations
Lt. Col. Carpenter was the Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion, the Cambridgshire Regiment in WW2. His diary tell the story of the defence of Singapore in the two weeks in February 1942, leading to the capitulation of British and Allied forces. His remains are buried in All Saints Churchyard, Hawstead
