Hawstead Journal

The Hawstead Journal first appeared in April 2002 under the leadership of Brian Kew, formerly of Bridge House, Pinford End. It appeared as an A5 booklet with (usually) colour illustrations and no advertisements. That style and format has been retained to the present day: however funding arrangements have changed and the initial generosity of local car dealers Cecil & Larter (helped by employee Peter Duffield being resident in Hawstead!) has morphed via Parish Council support to a situation whereby now local individuals and families sponsor individual issues.

From the start there was a policy of pass-the-parcel editorship: this eventually slowed down, so to speak and several individuals took spells at being editor, notably Geraldine West. It is now in the very safe hands of Dave and Judy Carter.

We are currently attempting to gather together a collection of back-issues which can be freely accessed via the website. In the meantime you may be interested in a list of articles which have appeared over the years. Not absolutely everything has been listed (and the meal recipies will constitute a separate list) and there are a few issues missing but anyway it's most of what's been written (apart from time-dependent and other ephemeral things) between 2002-2013

The Editor in July 2002, Gary Stokes wondered if the Hawstead Journal would be around five years on in 2007. Well yes it was, and it was also after ten years, in 2012!!
